Long Description of Figure 3a:

This photo was taken in 1900 from a ridge about 5 miles west of Haystack Butte, looking southwest across Smith Creek toward Crown Mountain on the east front of the Rocky Mountains, Lewis and Clark National Forest. The near slope is very bare from a fire.
