Disturbed Forests

Forests can be disturbed by thinning and harvesting operations, and prescribed and wildfire. Disturbances include both skid trails and the reduction in vegetation growth due to forest operations. The erosion risks associated with these disturbances can be evaluated with the Disturbed WEPP interface.

The Disturbed WEPP interface can also be used for predicting soil erosion during periods of vegetation regeneration following fires, and erosion on rangelands.

The database for Disturbed WEPP is based on field erosion studies. Validation is ongoing.
