Weight Loss of Loblolly Pine Stakes by Soil Depth
(1.5 years after insertion)

% of weight reduction by depth: Depth 1 (10 cm) = 11%, Depth 2 (20 cm) = 8%, Depth 3 (30 cm) = 6%

five wooden stakes labeled 1 to 5 from left to right; they look more decomposed (darker in color, shriveled and bent) as you go from left to right

Fig. 3. Pine stakes showing the amount of decay from the different extraction dates: 1) Stake condition before insertion, 2) 6 months, 3) 1 year, 4) 1.5 years, 5) 2.0 years.

Weight Loss in the OM2C2 Treatment for

Loblolly Pine Stakes
(6 months, 1 year and 1.5 years after insertion)

% weight reduction for 0.5 year time increments: 0-6 months = 2.1%, 6-12 months = 1.1%, 1-1.5 years = 7.2%

Fig. 4. Different rates of decomposition over 1.5 years in one treatment and one species (each % amount indicates the amount of weight reduction for the previous 6 month period only, not the cumulative total).
