In May 2001 a wood stake study was established on the LTSP site in the Umpqua National Forest (Douglas-fir habitat type). The experimental design, wood stake type, and sampling protocols are similar to the study at Council, Idaho, except that: (1) each LTSP treatment and the uncut control has three replicates, and (2) only pine and aspen stakes were used (no Douglas-fir). A total of 1500 stakes (30 cm long) were installed in the mineral soil, and 2400 stakes (15 cm long) placed in or on the litter layer.
